Couldn't resist the John Lennon reference.

I've decided to scrap the mess I've made and start over, but not from scratch. I'm using construction / logistic bots to delete/ remove everything. Any advice on starting over / organization ?

Grab everything you can, build a railway 1000* tiles in your preferred direction. Start a new base there. When you're satisfied with the new base you can start bothering to clean up the old mess. It's quite a common pattern to first build a small base/mess that produces the infrastructure you need to build the proper new base.

*adjust number depending on game progress/biter aggression

When grabbing everything I can, what should I prioritize for establishing the new base besides electricity?

Everything you need to build the base: belts, inserters, machines, power poles

When doing by rail......

why not set up a station at each end, and let the train carry over all ?

it would not a big effort to add the two stations
