Cutscenes for freeplay

Post by mudcrabempire »

I keep having this idea about two cutscenes for freeplay and I wanted to know what you think about it and if you think it would be worth doing.

The first cutscene would be right at the start of the game. You see a landing capsule descending from the sky and making a more or less gracefull landing. The hatch opens and the character steps out. End of the cutscene, start of freeplay.

The second would be at the end. Simply a fullscreen cutscene version of the launch of your first rocket.

Neither cutscene needs to be long or elaborate (and both of them skippable, of course), but I keep thinking that it would add just a nice little bit of flavor to the game.

On the note of the first cutscene: The landing capsule would appear as an ingame building that primarily marks your respawn point. Secondary uses optional.

There is a 40-second cutscene of the rocket launch already. You only have to watch it if you are standing next to the silo. :)

I‘d rather liked the „sunrise“ animation from the old first step campaign. This would IMO like OP mentioned add a little nice (skippable) flavor to the beginning of the freeplay.

Cutscene is a waste of disk space.

Which depends on how long they are...
Are there any cheap alternatives to Blink's outstanding compression ratio vs quality ?

On the game "Quantum Break" all video-cutscenes are streamed from internet. Some cutscenes are 1 hour long.
Maybe instead of delievering the cutscenes with the installer or steam get it from streams. Add an option for offline mode?
