Challenge - Win the game without moving...

Post by reduke »

Alternatively - win the game while stuck on a 1x1 starting island. (probably(possibly?) an awful lot easier)

As I rarely walk anywhere nowadays with 100% bot and radar coverage, it got me thinking...

I realise this will require a very specialised map, with very high concentrations of all required resources within reach of the player's spawn point, but if this were made - would it be possible?

Limitations - stock only, console commands limited to speeding the game up when required to get over some of the tedium until bots are available.

Thoughts? Or has someone already proposed/done this?

there is a mod that does it, you dont even appear as player that can move around and you cant pickup and place machines. It looks like you are in god mode and by using WASD you only move the camera as you would in map view. So you dont need an island spawn
You get some bots and roboports from start.

Just cant find it on the mod page

This sounds ghastly.
What IS the bare minimum needed to get construction bots up and running? That would determine if this is possible. I know the answer of "is it damn well likely?" at least for me: No way no how :D

Someone did a challenge like this. I think it was called paraplegic something. He called it a nightmare.
"No! This one goes there! That one goes There! Right?!"

Power. If bots get placed in your bags at the start, im sure they´d get you some miners, boilers, belts .... etc too.
Iirc it was 25 conbots and 2 or 3 roboports, no idea about the rest tho.

If i´d play it myself, i would like some bot speed too.
Basicly a "BP challenge", teaches you how to use them. Fast, i hope
Just cant remember the bloody name...

Is getting moved by belts allowed? If yes - easy challenge. Also annoying, boring, frustrating and long-winded, but easy. ^^

Oh so it's easy then. Just unbind the movement keys so you don't hit them by accident.

Though the OP specifically said stock install, and I don't think adding construction bots to your power armor to start falls into that category :D

Is this the one you're thinking of?

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/brave-new-world
Brave New World is a RTS-like scenario where the player character is removed, and all construction must be done by construction bots. You start with a roboport, a radar, an active provider chest, a storage chest, some solar panels and some few items.

since Brave New World (see above) is what i was thinking of, it turns out its a scenario, so scripted vanilla (?)

The point is that you need WASD, but you are not moving. You have no character to move. When in Player view, you move the camera, just as in map view

I didn't actually think about that - but it would basically defeat the purpose of the challenge ;)

So no - new limitations - nothing is allowed to be built on the player's starting square, and the player is not allowed to move out of their starting square at all. Imagine they are bolted to the ground  . Unbind WASD sounds like a very good idea also.

As an experiment I did actually try the alternate version last night - start on a 1x1 island, and it's actually incredibly easy as long as you can reach the resources you need. I escaped in about 10 minutes of real world play after turning UPS up to 1800 (I may now actually play all future games on this speed! ). Would be a lot more interesting without landfill :)
