Set the assembler to something that uses lubricant and connection arrows will appear.

Hook pipes to the intake arrow.

When you select a recipe requiring lubricant (or any other liquid, such as crude oil) in an assembler, a pair of pipe connections will appear on the side of the building. One of these connections will be an entry point, you have to connect a pipe with lubricant to it to make the recipe work. It's much easier to see with the alt-information on.

Note that you can rotate assemblers using the R key to change where the pipe connections appear, even though you can't actually see it when placing it.
