This screenshot is 8 hours in, but the enemy bases looked this numerous and large just a couple hours in (I had radar up right away).
The desert to the West and the forest to the South East had many more large bases, like those in the North. I chose to destroy them since my pollution was getting close. Several of the bases had multiple Big Worms together, which are very difficult to destroy with regular ammo, turrets and armor. I think I've gone through 4k to 6k clips of ammo.
This is my first time in free play, so I just want to make sure that some map generation quirk hasn't doomed me.
Is this a normal amount of enemies?

Re: Is this a normal amount of enemies?
Base size and density increase with distance from center, I'm not seeing anything too crazy there.

Don't forget that enemies migrate and a lot of those biter less areas might now have new biter nests in them.

Looks more or less typical for default biter settings...quite the..pests..aren't they?
Re: Is this a normal amount of enemies?
As a good first measure against those big worms, use poison capsules.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the poison.

Flamethrower, modular armor, battery, several solar and several energy shield works pretty good while you work up to power armor 2.
