Smart Loader

Post by Mr. Tact »

I don't suppose someone has a 0.13 fix / rebuild of Madzuri's smart train loader? You know the one which evenly loaded the waiting chests using an Arithmetic combinator... all my ore outpost loading is busted.

I have the same problem. Using Fast Inserters over Stack Inserters helps in a way that the numbers per chest can only vary by a maximum of 3 (with full research).
Still it's a bit messy...
If I find a better solution, I'll let you know!

I just replaced the filter inserters (which used to be smart inserters) with fast inserters, which will insert up to three items at a time into the chest. I replaced the fast inserters that load into the train with stack inserters. The wiring is the same, you just have 6 inserters per car now so the arithmetic combinator is set to divide all (*) by 24.

And you have that working as before? Hmmm... I tried wiring up some of the steel chests and it didn't go well -- wonder what I was doing wrong. Okay, guess I'll mess with it some more...

D'OH! The wiring behavior changed. I can't grab a wire and go from chest to chest to chest as before. Have to wire the 1st to the 2nd, then deselect the wire, then wire the 2nd to the 3rd and so forth...

Ya I discovered that little change fixing my own loaders. Not a fan of that one! At least 'Q' doesn't completely de-select the wire anymore. Also, funnily enough, the old behavior is still there when wiring through electrical poles.

i have copied the madzuri loader and added a bit for the unloader in the included screen shot.

i have made extensive use of the unloader bits for better balance, as that usually ends up draining some chests and others end up not being unloaded taking alot longer to unload. i have also included a blueprint string for my rapid balanced unloader, this will unload 2 cars one metal, one copper, double sided.

although the loader will work with using just the < 1, if you have fully upgraded stack inserters it works more efficient using < 12.

You do not need count perfect balancing for a smart loader.

The original design works fine, the only difference to 0.12 is that the individual chest contents may deviate slightly from the exact average count, which is obvious because the inserters now pick up items in batches from belts.

Can you explain or demonstrate a situation where the original smart loader does not do its job, which is loading the chests reasonably evenly?

It's not necessary for a train station that all the chest contain exactly the same amount of items.

But to answer your original question: yes, it is possible to have a count perfect smart loader even with stack inserters in 0.13+, and if you really want I can post a design.
