FF. Peer 2 Peer was removed

Post by DRBLN »

In the past it was quite common, that the guy with the slow internet caused others to lag.
Does it mean, that starting from the 0.13 version it will not be an issue any more?

No, the game still needs to run in perfect lockstep to maintain determinism. Each client still runs the entire game.

The only difference is that clients don't send each other messages. They send to the server, then the server forwards to the other clients.

And that's not really much of an actual difference – this behaviour is the default already, in 0.12.

You currently have the option to override this default by checking the peer-to-peer checkbox. The only thing that's happening in 0.13 is that we'll remove this checkbox.

Assuming everyone has enough bandwidth and the problem is simply latency, is this not much worse than p2p?

Sure, P2P can cut latency in half, in theory.

In practice, P2P exponentially increases the possible failure modes.
