13.x beta before June

Post by Rue99 »

Afternoon all. Don't post much (if at all), but love the game, and have been tinkering with it since before oil was introduced to the game.

I simply wondered whether the June date mentioned for the release of 13.0 was for a stable version, or whether (please God, let it be yes!) we will see experimental versions before then.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Rue.

It will be experimental. 0.xx.0 is the very first experimental of xx version.

Followup question:
How will this function for those on STEAM?

Some on STEAM will want only stable releases, no experimental stuff.

Some on STEAM want to experience the bleeding edge of development.

I forget if this is billed as an "early release" or not -- if it is, then experimental pushes are fine.

If not, then experimental pushes aren't necessarily a good idea.

TL/DR: Will STEAM users:
1/ only be given stable versions
2/ be given all updates, experimental or not
3/ have some form of choice

Point 3 is it, as it is now. In Steam you can opt in beta, which means you get the experimental versions, or do it not and get only the stable versions.

And Factorio is in early access, even if it is more stable and more feature-complete then many finished games :)
