Maybe for strategic reasons? Maybe they don't want hordes of people all buying/downloading the game only to find game breaking bugs that have to be fixed to prevent mass amounts of complaints and what have you? It's actually relatively smart given how often that has happened as of late with pretty significant and major indie game releases. Especially with more complex games where they are very complex but don't have the manpower to test all the types of hardware and software configurations.
