The *REAL* Lore

Post by KeithFromCanada »

I'm afraid that y'all have completely misunderstood what the biters actually are. They aren't a native species, but, instead, a Terran terraforming tool designed to process all atmospheric gases that aren't conducive to human health. (As MICROorganisms are all too readily mutated into something dangerous, MACROorganisms were designed, as they don't tend to mutate and are infinitely easier to find and get rid of once the job is done.)

The crash site was chosen because it is one of the original seeding sites and so has been active long enough that the biters in the area devolved and naturally died out in that area.

As pollution is produced, it reactivates the biter network, which starts re-evolving to achieve its original state of efficiency.

The reason that biters are so easy to kill is that they are supposed to be; once terraforming is complete and the biters have naturally devolved, aerial bombardment of the few remaining nests and tightly packed mobs of biters with a potent-but-completely-biodegradable pesticide allows for easy cleanup.

...except terraforming isn't complete, most of the biters haven't devolved, and you don't have the pesticide available to you. Oops; it sucks to be you!

(It shouldn't need to be said, but the biters were NOT originally co-designed to also be a biological weapon to prevent low-tech species from advancing. If anyone persists in spreading this unfounded rumour, they will be detained for re-education.)
