How come rail supports can be on oil ocean, but nothing else?
If something can hold the weight and shear forces of a train, I think it should be able to hold other things. I wouldn't mind a landfill that's specific to fulgora that costs different stuff than typical dirt/stone landfill. It doesn't make much sense.

Well you can walk and drive on the oil ocean.
I don't thik it's so much the weight of the rail, but that the rail supports are dug in enough to not fall over.
Also, in factorio there is "foundation" that's like landfill but can be placed on lava and the oil ocean, but it requires more advanced science packs.
It being harder to unlock than rail supports doesn't make much such though.
The game just wants you to have a different style of play on fulgora (rail lines between islands, instead of just one big base), it doesn't need to be too realistic.
Honestly I think it's too easy, as I found a massive island with scrap deposits, so you don't even need elevated rails (but there was a much bigger scrap deposit on a nearby island, so I have connected that via rails).

My only annoyance is that I have two islands close enough that I can connect them with a single logistic network (barely) but it makes a U shape and bots die outside the lightning protection.
So it would be nice to be able to (research) oil pylons for the lightning rods only.
But I get what the playstyle is supposed to be.

You can "landfill" the oil ocean with further research.
I expect it's locked behind further tech to prevent people from just using bots on every planet to bypass the unique mechanics.

For that purpose I recommend to use the advanced pylons with a higher quality. A rare model already has a very large range. I have such an U-shaped island, and I used it to cover that gap so my bots can cross it safely.bombcar wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 7:01 pm My only annoyance is that I have two islands close enough that I can connect them with a single logistic network (barely) but it makes a U shape and bots die outside the lightning protection.

In short, the costs and design specifications for a landfill often reflect the specific material it is designed to handle. If the materials in question don’t require those specific features, the infrastructure might not need to be as specialized, and a more standard landfill should suffice.
