What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
I'm thinking of getting the game, and I want to know what kinds of specs you need for a normal Factorio map, because my computer is only half-decent.
Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
I guess any gamer-equipment from the last 4 years, and any main-stream equipment from the last year or so would be enough.
A basic guideline should probably be at least 512 VRAM.
If you give us your specifications I guess there will be a few people here with similar systems who can share their experiences.
Another thing you can do is getting the demo and trying it out first. It has less graphical assets than the complete game, so it's less demanding, but it will at least give you a feel.

Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
My 7 year old gaming comp can run it without a single lag spike.
Q9550 (quadcore cpu)
GTX 780 (have been upgraded recently)
and 8k ram
So imo it's not too demanding (yet anyways).
But i don't know how much of a drain this game is on cpu vs gpu. My gpu is pretty good, so. idk.

Yes, I have realized after posting I may have been too conservative with my assumptions

Yes posting your specs would help a lot, them people could probably just tell you if your setup is good enough. I honestly don't think it takes too much. I play at max settings on my 4 year old lap top. It has 2.3ghz i7 quad core, a halfway decent nvidia graphics card, and 8gb ddr3 ram. Runs it without a problem.

I'm away from my main laptop right now, but AFAIK, here are some specs from the top of my head:
Windows 10 Preview 64-bit
Intel i5 (not sure how many cores, or clock speed)
16 GB RAM
Around 250 GB hard drive space

Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
As long as your CPU is one of the two latest generations of i-core (Ivybridge or Haswell) you should have no problem.
Not sure about windows 10, though. Has anyone tried Factorio with it?

Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
for base game 1GB VRAM +
if you like mods 2 GB VRAM +
Windows 7 system requirements
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit)
2 GB RAM (64-bit)
so 32-bit 2GB +
64-bit 3GB +
+ 1-2GB for mods
and "sillyfly" seed on CPU.

I think he meant 'what sillyfly said' :p
Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
How'd your setup do running the demo?
I usually get slow downs when I've uncovered an enormous amount of the map way late in the game.

I've haven't had the time to get in my computer for the past few weeks, so I can't really test that.DerivePi wrote:How'd your setup do running the demo?

That's actually not a good test. The demo has lower system requirements than the full game.DerivePi wrote:How'd your setup do running the demo?

If you haven't got a lot of time on your hands, maybe getting Factorio isn't the best idea. It'll suck you in, and you will find yourself spending dozens of hours on making bigger and better factoriesbigyihsuan wrote: I've haven't had the time to get in my computer for the past few weeks, so I can't really test that.

Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
I recently tried playing Factorio on my 5 year old Laptop ( Intel Core 2 Duo P8700, 1GB Geforce 9600M GT, 4GB Ram ) and it worked surprisingly well. In Early game i got constant 60 FPS. In my 40h Multiplayer Factory, FPS dropped to around 25 but it was quite playable. So i think as long as you have enough VRAM it should work quite well.
Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
A dedicated graphics card makes A LOT of difference. Your 5 year old Geforce 9600GT is still more powerful than a built-in Intel HD4000 or 4600 (which come with an Ivybridge or Haswell i-core processors respectively). Trying to run it on a built-in HD3000 (older i-core processors) would probably be very frustrating...
I found this comparison, if you want to take a look: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/mid_range_gpus.html

Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
I actually play the game with a i5 processor with HD4000 graphics, and never experienced frame rate drops. always a constant 60fps. however i do need to add is that you need to make sure you have the fastest ram your motherboard can handle, a matched pair (dual channel is what i have, quad channel is better) and also. lots of ram!!!!!!!! i cannot stress this enough.sillyfly wrote:A dedicated graphics card makes A LOT of difference. most laptops and desktops come with 4GB and HD grahics processor however, this is not enough as your ram is shared with system and vram. i recommend 8GB or more.
Re: What kind of computer do you need for Factorio?
Ok, no one here has as bad comp as me. I am playing this game on old lap top (i think from 2008) with:
-old pentium dual core T4500 that works on 2.3Ghz
-4 GB ram, (in reality 3.5 GB ram)
-old integrated GeForce 8200m G that does not have its vram, but is taking 512 from 4 GB DDR.
The game works on 20 fps, but I need to disable smog effects as when its on screen it drops to 10 fps.
So, anyone can beat this?
