How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
I read they use humble ok the website and would pay 25%.
How much more would the devs get if I buy stuff through the website instead of steam?

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
Steam takes 30%, so WUBE makes 43% more when people buy it directly from them instead of buying through Steam.

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
Only if they get all the money from the sale, which they surely won't, and the cost to the purchaser is the same, which it doesn't seem to be for me.
Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
I mentioned it in my post but someone said that they use Himble for the website sales which charge 25%. Steam has apparently tiers where the fee % goes lower as you sell more.NineNine wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 1:12 pm Steam takes 30%, so WUBE makes 43% more when people buy it directly from them instead of buying through Steam.

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
Afaik Steam only takes the 30% if you actually buy it through the Steam store. If you buy directly on their homepage all the money goes to the devs. The provided Steam key will not cause them any additional costs.
Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
I did buy the base game on Steam way way back.
Can I buy the expansion through the Factorio-website and do I then get a key which I can use on Steam to add the DLC to my Steam-version of the base game?

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
This trick has limits. As far as I understood:
if to many use it Wube will run out of Steam keys.

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
This is a standard document, obviously this doesn't apply to Wube/Factorio since they have worked out a deal where they are not lomited to 5000 keys and do not have to get case by case approval for each key. Wube is trusted by Valve to give keys for direct sales at equal price. They are selling millions...Nosferatu wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:42 pmThis trick has limits. As far as I understood:

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
They surely have more then the initial 5000.
A lot more and maybe also a special deal for automatic activation of new ones.
All I am saying:
If this loop hole would be actively promoted and the numbers for "Real steam sale" Vs "Activated Keys" would Tipp over valve would step in and stop it.
So buying on the website and NOT activating on steam is best for Wube.

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
As I said: They definitly do. Nothing else would make sense.
If Wube activly promoted it, through steam, to asking users to buy through their website instead then sure. But not if they just tell you that they get more but the price is the same, on factorio.com. and Wube won't be held responsible for what users say, it's not a secret. The user gets the same thing from the same price and isn't asked by Wube to not buy through steam so there's no issue.
Not activating on steam isn't helping Wube at all. Activating on steam helps steam and strengthens Wubes relationship with Valve. Valve wants users on their platform and their hosting costs are minimal. They get active users for free, without any onboarding costs. Valve can sell games to active steam users, they want you on it. They know you won't buy Factorio on steam after you bought it at Factorio.com anyways, so they rather sell you their 100k other games through their games advertisement channel that you install on your computer...

I cannot make any sense out of what you're saying here. How does Wube benefit from paying Valve 30% of their sales? Valve gets more users, and money. Wube gets....?
Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
Read what I quoted and what I actually said again.
There is no 30% fee for activating steam keys.

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
Hmm, I don't use Steam. (I think I bought 1 game from them I could not get anywhere else years ago, BUT I stopped playing that game along time ago, so haven't booted up steam in years. I not even sure if its on this computer. (Had to get a new laptop a couple years ago.)
I had always planed to buy the Space age through Factorio.com (Same place I bought the original game. back in 0.14 I think. (8 years ago)
I am seeing frequent mentions about Steam Keys, if I buy it from Factorio.com.
Do I need to have a steam account to either: download/install/use/unlock the Space Age expansion if I get buy it on Factorio.com?

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
No. If you buy from the website you don't need steam.
After that you can get yourself a free steam key later - but only if you want.

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
Any idea, when can we actually buy (or pre-order) the DLC? only on Monday or earlier?

Re: How much more the devs get if I buy through the website?
One issue with this is if everyone is buying at the same time, it might cause issues or outages, delaying people from getting the game. Also people might have issues with their payment, such as the bank putting a hold due to fraud detection, or maybe some other random thing since hundreds of thousands of people will be buying it so there's gonna be at least a handful people with problems. I hope Wube opens up the system to purchases as early as possible so if anyone has payment issues they can be resolved before the launch.
