Sharing DRM-Free Game for Multiplayer

Post by edwardsjethro »

Hello! Recently I picked up this game off the website and saw it was DRM free. Would I be allowed to share this game with a friend so we can play multiplayer together or would he also need to purchase an account upgrade?

Thanks!

I mean, is it technically possible to do that? Yeah. But really, your friend should buy a copy of the game if they want to play it. It would be the right and proper thing to do.

If it's a matter of not knowing if they'd like it, there is a free demo.

To make this clear, the answer is no. If you want to play with your friend, he needs his own license.

No, DRM-free doesn't mean it's got a spawn license.

It just means the devs don't hate their customers.

What about steam family sharing?

I mean, family sharing the library with the friend, (so they can play Factorio through Steam) and concurrently playing the drm-free version yourself.

This kind of seems like a gray area to me, so I shall ask if this is allowed.

[Moderated by Koub : unnecessarily dismissive]

You pay for one license, you get one license, you play one install at a time.

And just in case that's not clear enough: From the Steam Family Sharing FAQs:

> Can two users share a library and both play at the same time?

> No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time.
