Whenever I try to save or join a game, an error always pops up.
I have tried reinstalling the game, I also made sure that it had permissions to write in the save folders, I have chosen a different version of the game, I have tried it on another HDD, and I have wiped all of the saves.
How can I fix this?
When I try to join others and when I try to save:

Re: Cannot play game
Can you please post a log (%appdata%/Factoio by default on Windows)?
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

Re: Cannot play game
You can not write in this directory.TransferTarget threw an exception on start download: Error when opening C:\Users\gkrie\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\temp\mp-download.zip for writing: Permission denied
Re: Cannot play game
For some reason factorio is failing to write to C:\Users\gkrie\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\temp\ directory. Assuming the user name is right, I'd start by checking the permissions. If they look right, then my next guess would be that your anti-virus is blocking it for some reason.

I will check it out and get back to you.Zavian wrote:For some reason factorio is failing to write to C:\Users\gkrie\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\temp\ directory. So I have decided to move my save folders, how would I do that?gkrier wrote:I will check it out and get back to you.Zavian wrote:For some reason factorio is failing to write to C:\Users\gkrie\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\temp\ directory. Re: Cannot play game
The simplest way would be to use the .zip download from https://www.factorio.com/download. That is a completely portable copy of factorio, and stores it's saves and mods inside the directory created when you unpack the .zip. You can link your steam account to your factorio.com account via https://www.factorio.com/profile . You don't need to have purchased the game directly from Wube. (Note that your forum account is not a factorio.com account).
Untested, but you I think you can also be able to move the save directory by editing C:\Users\gkrie\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\config\config.ini and changing read and write data paths. (But as I said, I've never done that, so I'm not sure).

I've tried both, and the first method has the same results, and the second method has the same results, I have no idea what's going on anymore.Zavian wrote:The simplest way would be to use the .zip download from https://www.factorio.com/download. Re: 0.16.51 Cannot play game
Did you check the new log-files, to make sure that factorio was attempting to save the game outside of your user directory? (Also c: drive tends to be more heavily protected than d:. Running as an administrator might also work around whatever is blocking the write. You could also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus to see if that is what is blocking the writes. If so then I'd speak to your anti-virus vendor.
