No error logs?

Post by Colombo »

Hello,

while browsing forum, I encountered many players getting error logs. But when I have error in mod or something, the game just fall down without any error or error log. No console output when running through console, nothing. Those two logs that are present in factorio folder are quite empty without any usable info.

How do you enable those error logs?

Works for Mac and Linux only.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Hm. I must excuse, but I was sure, it works like so... :}

I can remember something about also installing a debugger?! What if you just search for "debug"?

Can you link to one such example, just so we know what you're looking for?

I tried to make a mod with an error just to see what happens, and I get a message box in game, but nothing in the terminal...

sillyfly: I don't even get message box in game. Factorio just fails without an error. You have to agree that bugfixing in that case is quite hard.

I spend an hour to fix the bugs, searching for comma, checking against wiki, untill I find out that it doesn't work just because some prototypes don't have allowed burner energy.

I agree. I don't know enough about Lua, but I suppose there is some form of exception handling mechanism (something like "try..catch" in java, for example). maybe you can use this to make your life easier.
But I think at this point you should probably file a bug in the bug reports forum. Maybe the developers could add better ways to see what went wrong in a mod...
