Very slow map download speed form dedicated Server.

Post by moonoob »

Hey everybody,
on beta version 14.14, I need 10mins + to download my ~20MB map from my dedicated server. The Server is capable of 100Mbps Up, my home connection of 200Mbps Down.
That info isn't really needed though, because the download stays at 500Bps for minutes. Just Bytes, no Kilos...! :o Other players dont have that problem with my server.

Anybody got any ideas for me how to debug this problem? I am really not into networking.
I am running Windows 10 on my Desktop, using Panda Antivirus Pro 2016's firewall and glasswire to monitore some stuff. Playing Factorio over steam.
I am not sure if I only imagine this, but for me it seems to pause ca. every 2.2MB, so at 2.2MB, 4.4MB and 6.6MB, plus what was downloaded at the very slow speeds.

I would be really gratefull for even the smallest tip!

Greetings from Germany,

Max

The map download algorithm was tweaked in Version 0.14.17.
Please test download speeds before/after the update and let me know if the issue persists.

Hey,
I saw the new update notes on reddit, 10 minutes after release and 10 minutes before laying the phone away to close my eyes and sleep. I updated the server from the phone directly, happy like a little boy on christmas, but only got to my computer by now. :D

The download definitely got better, but still is a bit buggy. Now, it doesn't falsely report 500Bps when it really is 0Bps and it doens't get stuck at those 0Bps interrupts, but tries again. Which is nice! :)
I uploaded a short video for you:

I would like to help, tell what monitoring programs I should download, which logs I should upload... Hell, you can even have my pc for an hour or two with teamviewer to conduct crazy experiments on it :D

Thanks for your answers btw :) Have a nice day!

Hi, sorry, I missed your previous response.

Take a look at this post and the entire topic.

I also uploaded a executable with more file transfer logging. Follow the instruction in this post and upload the log to help us understand what is happening.

In the end it could probably just be your ISP throttling the packets.

Hey Twinsen,
sorry for my very late answer! Seemingly I had disabled notifications for this thread and stopped checking it manually after some time.

Holy shit, I did all kind of stuff but it seems to be my Panda Antivirus Firewall. I could have sworn I tried to disable that ages ago! Stupid me.... Sorry!

Factorio seems to trigger the UDP flood protection of Panda. I just disabled that and don't think I will really miss it.

I am so ashamed of myself right now :(
