Heavy pixelated Factorio

Post by ThomasR92 »

Hello my fellow Factrorists!
From the start on, i have to admit that my english isn't that good, so please be patient :)

My problem is, I updatet Factorio to 0.12.20
Now my game is HEAVELY pixelated, starting at the loading screen, over the menu and the game itself.
This problem only occures in 0.12.20. Not in the 0.12.12.

My Graphic Card is up to date so i realy don't know whats the cause of this :(

In the hope someone can help me
Thomas R.

ps.
dxdiag

Well I have no idea atm.
Just wondering : why not use the 0.12.22 instead of the 0.12.20 ?

Your factorio log-file might give additional information, please post it as well.

Actually, 0.12.22 is the most stable version currently available :).
The 0.12.20 was supposed to be the 0.12 stable, but there has been a lot of bug fixes in 0.12.21 and 0.12.22

[Edit]
The logs can be found in Start > Run > %APPDATA%\Factorio

The log is generated even if there is no crash. It should be named "factorio-current.log", and you should also have a "factorio-previous.log", which is always the log of the last run.

Edit: See Log File and Application directory in the wiki

That looks like something that would happen if I configured a game to resolution or refresh rate that was not supported by old CRT monitor :).

Anyway, I tried matching your configuration but the game ran without any issue for me. Try setting force-opengl to false to use DirectX renderer (opposite of solution 2 here)

From the logs I can see that your laptop has an integrated HD 6320 APU (GPU integrated in the processor) and a dedicated HD 7400M GPU.
Factorio uses the dedicated 7400M (which makes sense, as it is more powerful). Do you have any options on your laptop to change which application uses which GPU? Factorio might be able to run on the HD 6320 without problems.

Also, could you try both of the two attached modified config.ini(s)?

Do you have the same pixelation as ThomasR92 (see first page of thread for screenshots)?

If you do, try the DirectX config I posted. If this doesn't help or you have different pixelation, post a screenshot of the game and a log file (for Mac in ~/Library/Application Support/factorio/factorio-current.log).
