corrupted/not working configuration file

I have recently downloaded factorio (0.11.22), but it didn't work, and it gave me the following error:

0.000 Error Util.cpp:43: /games/factorio/bin/x64/../../config-path.cfg(1): '=' character not found in line

I can't open the file, because I don't have a program to do so (apparently it isn't a simple text file)
Is the file corrupted or is there something else wrong, and what should I do to make it work?

P.S. is there any way to check the md5sum or something similar of the downloads?

Delete it, it will be automatically recreated. But your settings are lost.

But we have now 0.12.5. You are a bit outdated.
