[2.0.20–2.0.21] Standalone client does not update automatically

[2.0.20–2.0.21] Standalone client does not update automatically

I run a 2.0.20 standalone client on MacOS 15.1. If I boot it up, there's no update notification, despite 2.0.21 being released and automatic updates enabled. Checking the box for experimental updates does not fix it.

Update: I have two accounts since I like to play anonymously on the server I run. When I logged into my primary account that is connected to Steam, the update was successfully prompted. However, the update fails on being unable to find factorio.app/Contents/data/changelog.txt. When I copied in the changelog from my Steam files and removed the 2.0.21 section, the update succeeded.
