Memory leak with Realtek and Dolby Sound [SOLVED]

Post by chfactorio »

Hi,

It seemed with the 0.15.x release I struck a memory/resource leak in Factorio. If I left the game paused for a few hours, it'd gradually chew up all available RAM (~10GB) in it's process space and Windows would start thrashing the swap file/dying.

It seemed to be a problem with either my Realtek HD Audio drivers or the Dolby Home Theatre app installed along with it. I upgraded the driver to the latest release, and uninstalled the Dolby stuff, and no more leaks so far.

May not be a bug in Factorio, but it wasn't obvious it was Realtek causing the problem - also doesn't seem like any other game scratched that particular bug, so I don't know if there's something non-standard or a weird library in how Factorio deals with it's audio.

Cheers.
