[0.15] Game does not start at all.

[0.15] Game does not start at all.

I'm running Win 10 x64, drivers are all up to date. Did a fresh uninstall/reinstall of Factorio, opted in to experimental branch. When I press "Play", it says "Running" next to Factorio in the Steam sidebar for about 15 seconds, and then "Running" disappears and nothing ever happens.

Thats .14 and it seems to be running fine.

Earlier I tried reverting to 0.14 to see if it would run, and it started normally. That log file must have been created when I successfully started 0.14

I right click Factorio in Steam, > Properties, > Betas, and opt in to 0.15.x - Factorio 0.15 Experimental. It downloads and installs. I click Factorio in Steam and click Play. It says "Running" in sidebar, about 15 seconds, and then Running disappears and nothing happens.

I just did it again, and checked the log file location. Neither of the log files have changed.

There is a bug report about a starting issue without log creation, could be that.

Link is broken. I have found two threads, viewtopic.php?t=44581 and viewtopic.php?f=7&t=44543, both seem to be possibly related to virus scanners. All I'm using is the built-in Windows protection, and it hasn't flagged anything as far as I can tell.

UPDATE:

I uninstalled the game from Steam, and downloaded the 0.15.1 installer from Factorio.com.

Installed and it runs fine. Steam must be involved in this issue.

UPDATE 2:

I (of course, haha) immediately went into Options and changed sprite resolution to High. Requires restart, so I exited. Now when I double click the icon on my desktop, nothing happens. I delete the config file, and Factorio starts again, but the sprite resolution setting is reverted.

I also got it from the website and had it work fine, definitely a steam problem.

Okay, so if I delete the config file, Factorio starts. I can start a new game, etc. If I exit the game without changing the sprite resolution setting, Factorio starts back up normally. If I do change the sprite resolution setting, Factorio doesn't start and the errors get thrown in Windows Event Viewer.

The problem might be the config-path.cfg. You need to disable the system read write paths (%APPDATA%)
if you delete all content and replace it with

config-path=__PATH__executable__/../../config
use-system-read-write-data-directories=false
it should work as expected.

@devs
i also can't run factorio when set to %APPDATA%\Factorio.. it not even provides a log file, so i suggest the devs check what happens if the game tries to request %APPDATA%. Seems that the ntdll.dll is faulting

Same issue here. Press "play" in steam, but game does not start.
Tried to change config-path.cfg but didn't resolve. Deleting config files didn't resolve it either.

Edit:
When checking task manager, factorio process shows up but has no activity. I tried directly downloading from website, but same thing.
Steam has cloud disabled.
