Suddenly unable to connect with friend

Have seen several similar questions asked with no response.

Was playing fine with a friend then updated to .14.2. He could no longer join my games, nor I his.

"can't establish communication with server"

I feel sure its something with the ports but...

Neither of us have access to the router, me because its through the ISP, and him because he is a cave man. But that didnt seem to be a problem before, no opened port and could still play fine.Til now.
Tried rolling back the patch, uninstalling, unblocking, turning off firewall.

We can both join other games but i guess neither of us can now host.

Appreciate any thoughts or assistance.

Edit: I now have the ports open to TCP and UDP 34197. Still no luck
Edit2: Tried hamachi, still same problem. Not clue what could be the issue.

Yeah me and my brother have pretty much the same problem. I can connect to public games (dont think he has tried) but we cant connect to each other. Tried everything we could think of. Got a direct tunnel on hamachi etc.. Really hope they are working on and can fix their network stuff for the next big update. We have played the game successfully before.
