[0.16.4] Power Pole Fast-Replace Issue

Post by warlordship »

I've just tried out the power pole fast-replace feature. It doesn't come into use that often, but I found myself using it a few times in a brand-new map. I came across an issue where when I fast-replaced a pair of small poles that didn't connect, but were close enough to each other to connect as medium poles. For some reason, the two poles did not connect. I was forced to pick up and place the pole again.

Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce the exact situation that caused this issue, but I did manage to reproduce it in one form, and the pole behavior from that is probably what caused my issue before. Here, the pole replacement is going from a medium pole to small, but it's worth looking into:

Build poles in this configuration. It involves building one medium pole, one small pole, then the other medium pole:

Next, select a small pole, and hover over the medium pole that isn't connected to the small pole:

Note how it shows that the small pole should connect to the small pole next to it.

Fast-replace the pole, then move the cursor aside:

Notice how the new small pole fails to be connected to anything.

I think what might be happening, had to do with the "3 poles won't connect to each other in a triangle" power pole rule. It might be trying to re-establish the connection between the medium pole and the far electric pole (which fails), while ignoring the connection between the two small poles because that would create a triangle. A bit of experimentation based on pole sizes and placement order may reveal the exact issue I ran into where a medium pole failed to connect to another medium pole.

Side note: I found a way to actually connect 3 poles to each other in a triangle using fast replace. Is that worth reporting?

Aw mannnnn. I did a search for power poles, not electric poles and found no topic.

What about triangle connectors?
