When placing an underground belt in front of an electric mining drill the ore is placed only on the south side of the belt.
As you can see in the pic, the mining drill pointing down is placing the ore on the farthest side of the belt. The drill pointing up is placing the ore correctly (closest side of the belt).
EDIT: I did another test, a mining drill pointing left places the ore on the furthest side of the belt, while a drill pointing right places it on the nearest side of the belt.
