[2.0.23] Info panel on side of screen sometimes is cut off by edge of screen

Post by MrBurd »

Image taken from this reddit post.

When using the Info panel setting that docks it to the side of the screen, sometimes the tooltip is cut off by the bottom of the screen. This is especially a problem on space platforms, where the extra info on the side makes the side panel much taller than ingame, or with a couple notes added as seen in the screenshot.

Changing the UI size is not an option; I have bad eyesight and can't read the text if I set it to be smaller.

Sadly, this is not a bug, see 121290

You're options are:
  1. Decrease the UI scale
  2. Use a mod to hide the mimimap
  3. Change the settings so tooltips show next to the cursor, and not the side of the screen
  4. Try and remove your map pins (the full tooltip probably still won't show though)
  5. Follow my instructions on the other post to modify your control.lua file so the minimap is hidden on space platforms

1. I can't decrease ui scale, bad eyesight.
2. I don't want to use mods, as that disables achievements.
3. I don't want a tooltip next to my cursor, it's distracting and fills up a sizeable portion of my (small) screen.
4. I want to use map pins! I shouldn't need to remove notes to be able to see a UI element!

No hard feelings towards you for the record, I just think it's stupid that this is marked as a "won't fix".

All reasonable, as for point #2, see 100924.
Oh and I just realised, you where also on the other post, so why did you open a duplicate bug report?

Opened bug report, then found the other one.

Fair enough, sadly you can't close your own bug reports. But I'm sure a mod will come along and do that.

Also, I am aware the achievement enabler exists; I just feel like it's not a kind of hassle I should go through just to fix a UI quirk.

Personally, I reduced the GUI scale to 175% and removed my pins. Then everything fits:

But I have good eyesight and a large screen. Also I found I was never actually looking at my pins anyway.

Oh yeah, an option to temporarily hide the list of pins might work too.

It's always odd to me the number of people on this forum who can't disagree with something without needing to be insulting in the process.

You could have said "I disagree" or "I think it ought to be reconsidered." Instead you went with "it's stupid." Why is that? Do you really think the devs are stupid (or at least are making stupid decisions) because they don't agree with you?

Oh yes, a minimise button? That might work. Also being able to resize the list (or resize the minimap).
There are plenty of options for the developers to try.

I think this may be a cultural things, some cultures take far less offence from things (e.g. where I'm from people will frequently swear without anyone getting offended). There are people all of the world on this forums, I've even seen the dev's and forum moderators being accused of being to rude or blunt (where english isn't even their first language).
