Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
This is awesome news!!! Thank you so much for doing this.
I do have a question though, will the game be available in a physical cartridge or only through online download?

Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
so today I learned aparently you can't get away with the same log in with steam option on the forum so hooray for one more account on the endless pile that I totally won't forget I made at some point >.<
anyways, thought I'd share this gem right here. oh how far they have come over the years...and to a bit of a weaker system in the form of the switch at that. fingers crossed it doesn't ignore touchscreen inputRe: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
No mod support on Nintendo Switch, even though Factorio has an in-game mod browser.
Why do I even have this thing?
(What about mods by devs such as Klonan's mods?)
Also I wonder if one can bypass the lan-only restriction by proxying it through a pc.
Another question is how will updates/versioning be handled when public servers also take time to update?

Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
Why no mod support? I’m guessing it’s either:
1) Lack of CPU power and/or RAM
2) Trouble porting the Lua library, since it uses JIT, and the Switch won’t let unsigned code be marked as executable. Also, not using JIT would make 1 even worse, as well as fragmenting the codebase
3) Issues with community content moderation
I’m also wondering if this means executing Lua using /c does/doesn’t work, and if running them on the server will require a resync
Can we do direct connect games to a dedicated server (not running on Switch) without a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online?

Oh, gotta get those translations finished then!
The factory must grow on Switch.

Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
Quick question, do we have to buy it again?

While "mod it 'till it crashes" is ok for most PC players, console games are generally expected to be much more stable(the are exceptions, but they are rare). With the limited amount of RAM, most mods could quickly end up crashing the game.
Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
Can we get physical versions of Factorio for the Switch? Pre-Order?
Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
Guys,
Nintendo Switch is ARM. Does that mean ARM factorio (at least servers, maybe clients) are an option now? And HOW THE HECK did you manage to achieve determinism between ARM and x86?!

Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
I am shocked, disappointed, oh my god all the emotions. Nintendo Switch is a platform that's heavily marketed to children. CHILDREN! And you intend to sell CRACK on the SWITCH? You guys need an ethics department real bad, I tell you...
... that being said, good opportunity to get my niece hooked. lol
Pretty cool stuff guys. I did expect you guys to announce the next big thing and say something like "btw it releases next month" or something crazy like that. I did not expect a switch port to be that, rather the expansion, but I guess I was half right eh.
Was this all you Twinsen? Pet project for 18 months to port the game? That's really impressive!
It's not necessarily for me, not owning a switch and all that, but definitely a good thing to see Factorio spread and stay a healthy, active game. Looking forward to the coming weeks, hopefully this means a return of regular FFF's with another one lined up for next week already!
Cheers, and good luck with the launch!

Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
Almost certainly.
Will the Switch version allow you to somehow download blueprints or otherwise access them? I assume you can create your own.
Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
Tbh, while I am really happy for the team, and especially for Twinsen, that must have been a great and entertaining challenge, I am disappointed.
For years we hear "Arm will not be optimised for, there will be no arm builds", because "Determinism, weak systems, yada yada" and yet, for 1,5 years a port has been in the works for a completely proprietary, closed system on based on Tegra(!).
Let's at least hope this is a step towards more builds for more architectures, and not "1.2 and all future updates will be oriented towards a 20W handheld console" (And don't tell me I am hyperbolizing, crossplay, and that means future updates) are said to be available on the Nintendo™ Switch™ console with their patented JoyCon™ for the epic gamers™)
For the team, great job, for the switch players - congrats.

Pony/Furfag avatar? Opinion discarded.
Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
I will touch a bit on the subject in the FFF next week.
With ARM growing more and more in popularity, making ARM builds is something we consider. I don't think the popularity is big enough yet to warrant dealing with yet more new platforms. But when the need is there, the biggest obstacles, such as determinism and performance, should be solved.
Re: Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™
It's an april fool joke, again? Or is it real?
