Friday Facts #229 - Taiwan report & Lamp staggering
Re: Friday Facts #229 - Taiwan report & Lamp staggering
Hooray lamps! It's the little things like this that makes a game great. <3
Re: Friday Facts #229 - Taiwan report & Lamp staggering
When can we expect the next update? They are quite infrequent for an experimental branch.

The answer to your question is in the FFF:Gergely wrote:When can we expect the next update?

Re: Friday Facts #229 - Taiwan report & Lamp staggering
I admit not reading through before asking. FFF threads are usually a good place for quick questions as long as they are not filled to the third or fourth page. (Which seems to happen faster recently.)Tekky wrote:The answer to your question is in the FFF:
Anyway...
WARNING!!!
I swear I will block anyone who I see mentioning the game/video behind the "weird" link, because now my YouTube is filled with "that" stuff after watching about three seconds of it. (NOOO!!) You will regret clicking on it even in chrome's incognito mode I swear it. Friendly warning curious humans.DONT OPEN THIS
They are trolling us with it and it is not fun at all.

I'm sorry to hear that visiting the game show did not directly boost sales of Factorio. However, in the long run, I'm sure that it still was worth the effort of going there.
I'm pleased to hear that the issue of light staggering has been addressed. The main thing I am now waiting for is fixing belt compression. After that, as far as I'm concerned, 0.16 can be declared stable.
EDIT: I believe the issue of not being able to make walls connect to cliffs should also be fixed before 0.16 is declared stable.

Great FFF as always!
One question,
What will happen to the existing lamps in saves when updating to 0.16.23?

Yeah, the lamps are cool and all, but I haven't touched 0.16 or Factorio even since the belt compression issues.
I need to know what the future brings!
Talk about belts vs. bots all you want, but ruining belt compression is IMHO a masive nerf to belts.

Does a mean for some given lamps, the order they are turned on will be the same for every night ?
If there is a time assigned to each lamp to know when it should be turned on, this time could be randomised at each cycle.

I hate the lamp staggering. Leave it gone.

Agreed. I'm playing a bit of Railway Empire right now, and the train system in Factorio is better then in that one... In a game about trains...Mylon wrote:Hooray lamps! It's the little things like this that makes a game great. <3
(Not that Railway Empire is bad per se, but i wish they put a bit more work into stuff like signals and train-pathfinding)

Really enjoyable Friday Facts to read! I'm glad the game show went well overall and you all got to have a couple days to explore the city and places you wanted to go. That's cool Jitka got to stay for the start of a nice vacation. I looked at that first game you guys mentioned you played, I may have to pick it up for myself as it does indeed look quite fun!
The lamp staggering and turning on earlier is awesome! It definitely was too dark before they turned on, so I'm glad that will be fixed. Now the only thing left is belt compression.
Hopefully you guys manage to go to PAX East as well.
Great work as always!

I second the comment that belt compression has to be fixed. The miniloader mod fixes it by loading and unloading a chest so maybe add an entity specifically for the feature.

This is one of those relaxed FFFs which will not get a ton of discussion
I hope you guys enjoyed your trip and it actually made some sense in a form of potential profit.

However I really hope this gets a proper fix soon

Klonan himself made such a mod right when the problem arisedpurdueme91 wrote:I second the comment that belt compression has to be fixed. The miniloader mod fixes it by loading and unloading a chest so maybe add an entity specifically for the feature.

Re: Friday Facts #229 - Taiwan report & Lamp staggering
a thing that would be awesome is being able to dim lamps, either via a circuit signal or just by waiting... so all lamps would turn on on the same time, but would be very dim at first and slowly incrrease in strenght as it gets darker.

Somehow I am not surprised about that.Tekky wrote:I'm sorry to hear that visiting the game show did not directly boost sales of Factorio. However, in the long run, I'm sure that it still was worth the effort of going there.
The Asian market is tough shit for Western game developers. If a game isn't a grind-based microtransaction-filled MMO/RPG/MOBA/RTS people usually don't give much of a fuck over there.
Have seen even various bigger companies having trouble with that in the past.

Re: Friday Facts #229 - Taiwan report & Lamp staggering
I think it would be better in the game settings, because it is totally player preference. Even in multiplayer, players should not be locked under the same set of options if this gets implemented.bobingabout wrote:Great work.

Well, personally I like the lamp staggering, but maybe since not everyone does it should be a game option?Xuhybrid wrote:I hate the lamp staggering. Leave it gone.
