I couldn't find a good map, but i found one that is literally the worst.
you spawn on a 1x1 piece of land and are surrounded by miles of water.

This was like my 2nd attempt at finding a good map; I guess I got lucky.
There are all resources on the spawn landmass, including 14 oil spots. Copper is somewhat short compared to the coal and iron, but enough to get started to reach the deposits just outside the base. The forest on the center landmass is fairly dense.

Here's a nice starting location-- a huge field of iron and copper, with coal next to a lake for power plants. There's two small oil deposits as well, and a much bigger oilfield just to the east near the red flag.

Your west is water, and you can pretty easily clear the peninsula to the south, leaving north and east to expand and defend against. As you go further out, there's plenty of nice groups of copper and iron ore sitting nearby. Maybe too many trees, but driving the tank through them will clear some paths.

The start area has all the resources you need and a generous but not ridiculous quantity of oil.

The map is suitable for max biters, but you can always just use the string to get the map seed and turn the biters down if you like.

A wonderful beginner map I've played through a couple of times now. Plenty of dense and easily accessible resources. Great if you don't like dealing with trains!

A good mix of resources, 'very good' density, and standard medium biter settings. If you prefer a brown and green map use the map seed, delete the string, and change the terrain segmentation to very low.

Very zoomed out overview.

Extremely generous resource settings. Very easy starting area, with coal right against iron, copper and stone nearby. Great expandabillity to north and south. Large oil deposit to right of the iron.

Tho you have to spawn in some coal as there was none in emidiate are using /c local surface = game.local_player.surface; for y=-5,5 do for x=-5,5 do surface.create_entity({name="coal", amount=5000, position={game.local_player.position.x+x, game.local_player.position.y+y}}) end end changing the numbers to whatever size you need. I guess only mod that would have any impact would be Ore Expansion_1.0.2.

I liked Zerim and anima's highly defensible maps and thought I'd take a swing at spawning one like it. I got really lucky. This large peninsula has plenty of space but a single turret covers it's only choke point. It connects to a huge landmass that I only found 1 border of.

The peninsula has all starting resources. There is an abundance of Iron, Coal and Oil. Copper is sufficient to get well into Logistic bots, but you'll probably need copper outposts for the rocket.

I haven't found a map I like better in long attempts.
Please if you do share this map, provide credit to me as the discoverer.

If you'd like a name for this map, I suggest "Xanadu"

If anyone's looking for a potential challenge... there may or may not be any oil on this map (using 0.13). I haven't found any yet. (Did they change the color or is oil still supposed to be purple on the map?)

EDIT: Yes, oil is still purple - using radars I managed to find one lonely oil spot. Getting to it may be interesting as I have to do so with no lasers, no poison caps, no distractors, no tank, no rockets, no flame thrower, no intermediate or advanced turret or combat robot upgrades, no modular armor, etc. because all of those require oil. And of course there are biter bases between me and the oil spot (and one right next to it). In the meantime my base is spewing pollution since there's no electric furnaces, no efficiency modules and no assembly machine 3s. (And so far for stone I have had to bust up rocks with my axe and there is no stone to spare for walls.) Might be the best map yet! :-)

So it looks like either 0.13 has changed how the map generator works or I have stuffed something up, because the map is generating completely differently with your string.

If you downgrade to 0.12 the map generation works fine. Save the map immediately, update to 0.13 and the map will work fine, you'll just get a little popup about changes when you load the 'old' map save.

You spawn on a peninsula with no biter bases and all of your necessary mineral deposits.
