[2.0.10] Crashes

Place for things which are bugs but we have no idea how to solve them. Things related to hardware, libraries, strange setups, etc.

[2.0.10] Crashes

Post by Hylarchi »

Ok so, I have started experiencing crashes when placing turrets and dropping ammo into them rapidly, this is not the only reason of the crashes but the only remarkable one I can find. I do have a old computer and space age may just be more demanding but I have been experiencing crashes when (but not limited to) placing turrets and filling them with ammo fast (they have to be near biter nests/attacking I'm not sure but just filling them fast without biters near doesn't crash). I also seem to crash when opening chat/typing (sometimes it crashes on the opening of chat and sometimes after typing a few words) also I sometimes crash while just placing entities rapidly (has only crashed while placing railroads if that's useful). I have attached the logs from my most recent crash which was when I placed about 5 turrets near a biter nest (in range of the nest and biters) and started rapidly dropping ammo into them, right as the game froze I saw (on NVidia performance overlay) my gpu spike to 100% for a half second then instantly go back down to about 20-30% where it was previously and I checked task manager and system + windows reporting were taking up crazy disc processing (they were about 30x more than the next highest items under disc) and it was about 99% total disc usage but this was after the crash so I do not believe it was a cause. Sorry if I overexplained I just wanted to give as much detail as possible because I'm practically unable to play the DLC right now since I can't easily take out biter bases unless I meticulously open up each turret and drag the ammo into it. Also, forgot If I mentioned this but I have never had any crash problems with the base factorio game.

Thanks for the report. Neither of the logs you provided show evidence of a crash. Are you getting an actual popup saying "an unexpected error has occurred", or is the game just disappearing?

Due to the inconsistent nature of the crashes you describe, I first recommend performing a system update, especially your GPU drivers, because it sounds like you're experiencing system instability.
Don't forget, you're here forever.

No, the game just shuts down. Althought, the first crash that happened did do a popup and it said something about launch with openGL or something like that if that has anything to do with it. Oh and after that crash it stopped popping up stuff just shutting down.

This is fixed.

I believe this was because I downloaded itnoff of the website, played on my world a little bit then swapped to the steam version and it like messed something up.

I fixed this by just deleting and redownloading factorio and then I tried all the methods that 100% crash me (the typing in chat and gun turrets near biters) and I could type and place however many gun turrets so I atleast think its fixed.

Maybe Windows is killing Factorio when it runs out of memory? Either inspect the entries in the Event Viewer relating to Factorio.exe or run Process Explorer in background and keep an eye on physical and virtual memory graphs.
