New Terrains (Swamp, Mountain, Ice, etc)

Post by DerivePi »

Concept - Add more terrain options to the game that introduce new problems to the player that can be solved with new technologies.

Example 1 - Swamp/marshland - player's movement is reduced to a crawl when traveling unaided through swamps. However, peat, will o wisps, salt, etc.. can only be found in these areas. Player has the option to develop an airboat, wood piling, dams, etc... to establish an outpost in these areas to gather these resources. The swamp biter has a poisonous bite that requires a cure before imminent death.

Example 2 - Mountain - player is unable to move through mountainous terrain. However, tin, zinc, and deep iron and copper mines can only be established in these areas. Player has the option to develop tunneling, wind turbine gens, surveying, observatory, etc.. Beware of the underground biter lurkers! They remain hidden until they attack.

Example 3 - Underwater - player needs to breathe

Example 4 - Ancient ruins - surrounded by mountains - a psionic attack causes player to be confused and drop items without shielding - many treasures and discoveries await, but the ancient biter is not welcoming as he teleports through defenses!

Example 5 - ice - player constantly loses health without a portable heater. Sparse energy but plenty of minerals. The sledskate allows fast travel across the icelands. Granite and trapped gasses are available for collecting.

I would also like this.

Same with underground digging.

I might start trying to generate some simple mountains - or at least rock areas.
