[Pending] early play in demo mode, when bug enters

I'm brand new, just trying to learn how to start this game, but am very frustrated because I have gotten to level 2 in demo when a bug comes and then this error happens "Error while running the event handler: ...Data/Roaming/Factorio/temp/currently-playing/control.lua:170: attempt to index field 'character' (a nil value)" It keeps happening at the same point, I can't get past it and the autosave goes back to where I started.

I am trying to figure out how to use the gun and ammo when this happens after the bug shows up.

It can't be me, this is an error that throws me out of the demo at the same point, over and over.

Can you upload your autosave? There is an "upload attachment" button at the bottom of the posting page.

If you use Windows, the autosave is in %appdata%\Factorio\saves

I am too also having this bug. I am not certain how to report it as I am running the latest Mac OS. How do I submit the autosave. I have purchased the game via Steam and I seem to be stuck with the same error as posted by the person who started this thread. Attached is the screenshot of the error for now. I am not able to progress very far into the game because every time the bugs attack I end up with a error and have to start the level all over.

This bug has actually been resolved for 0.13.8 (almost a month ago) already: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=27926

The autosaves you posted are from 0.12.35 (current stable), you'll need 0.13.8 or higher to play the campaign without errors.
On Steam you can opt-in to experimental releases by right-clicking on Factorio in the Steam library, then go to Properties --> Betas and select experimental from the drop-down menu. You might need to restart that level of the First Steps campaign for it to work properly.
