I encountered this problem with a train I had left in manual mode, sitting on rails just ahead of a station I built (after leaving the train in its position). I then entered the train interface, added two stations to the train route (the one next to it and another one on the other side of the rail network). I then ordered the train to move to the station just behind it.
On clicking the 'play' button in the train interface to do this, the game crashed.
I expected the train to loop around the track and come back to the station behind it (or at least attempt to, possibly getting stuck at a signal somewhere or with a 'no path' - the signalling on the rail network was a WIP and not correct for what I was trying to accomplish).
I was able to get around the problem by instead ordering the train to the station on the other side of the rail network (where it did then get stuck at a signal before I fixed the signal network).

Re: [0.17.4] Crash sending train to station immediately behind it
Hi, I am assuming this is no longer valid? A lot of changes and fixes of trains happened since 17.4.
