I updated to version 0.17.1 as of 26 feb 23:49 ECT, and noticed an issue with the background music. The music is restarted upon exiting the escape-menu. This did not occur in previous versions.
Edit: changed title from "[0.17.1] Sound resets when exiting esc-menu" to "[0.17.1] Sound volume resets when entering/exiting esc-menu".
Edit: still occurs in 0.17.4, adjusted title accordingly.
[0.17.4] Sound volume resets when entering/exiting esc-menu
[0.17.4] Sound volume resets when entering/exiting esc-menu

Re: [0.17.1] Sound resets when exiting esc-menu
Can you describe in more detail what you mean? When I test, pressing escape slowly fades out the sound until it stops and exiting the menu slowly fades back in the sound - but it doesn't reset it.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
Re: [0.17.1] Sound resets when exiting esc-menu
Upon further testing, the problem seems to be that pressing escape leads to a discontinuity in the sound volume, not a reset of the music being played.
1) When starting from a running game, pressing escape doesn't lead to an immediate fade-out: it takes about a second for the fade-out to kick in. When the fade-out is complete, pressing escape leads to an immediate fade-in of the music. Apart from the 1 second delay this seems to function as expected.
2) Pausing the game, waiting for the fade-out to start, and pressing escape before the fade-out is complete leads to a jump in volume to 0 and then the regular fade-in. I.e. if the volume is being faded out from 100 to 0, and I unpause when the volume is at 50, the volume instantly jumps to 0 and starts fading in to 100, leading to audible clipping.
3) Similarly, after unpausing, when the volume is at 40 while being faded in from 0 to 100, pausing the game will instantly jump the volume to 100 and start the fade-out, leading to clipping.
Does this clarify the problem?
Re: [0.17.2] Sound volume resets when entering/exiting esc-menu
After further testing: the same behavior as described in the post above happens when entering/exiting the research screen, or when an autosave occurs.
Re: [0.17.2] Sound volume resets when entering/exiting esc-menu
This drives me nuts btw, I'll be in another window waiting for a process to finish, and then the autosave will kick in and the machine's operational noise stops and I think it's done. So I switch back in and the machine starts making noise again because it was not even close to finished.
