I'm having a weird issue with a train stop. Any time I try to rename it "Stone outpost" my game client freezes and becomes unresponsive. I finally tried naming it "Stone Station" and it works fine. Picked up station and tried replacing it. Same issue. I don't know if this is possible but I guess naming it that in particular is freezing my game? It lets me type up to "Stone O" before it freezes, so maybe something to do with entering a "u" into the station name field? I can provide you with a save if that helps if you tell me how I go about doing it. Relaunched the game several times just to confirm it does it every time without fail.
Edit: Logs below, finally figured it out (they weren't where they were supposed to be). I think the problem has to do with typing a capital "O" in the train stop name field. I tried to name a station "Oil Outpost" and it froze as soon as I typed the "O". I tried it again as "oil outpost" in all lowercase and it worked fine without freezing. Strange bug.

Trying to find the requested data, Factorio folder looks a bit different then I remember. Tried looking at the tutorial for posting logs. My factorio folder has bin, data, and doc html folders. Which one of these is the relevant info in?

I read the post, I just built a new PC which might be the reason. It's pulling my saves off the cloud and wondering if my info is there somewhere also. Like I said previously, those files are not in the factorio folder of my system.Loewchen wrote:See: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3638

Ok so the directory my log and saves are in is really weird. I can only find it if I search my computer for it. I can't find it when I try to upload. It's in Users\Username\Appdata\Roaming\Factorio. Which isn't where the game is installed at all. I'm not sure how it ended up like this or how to fix it.

That sounds like the normal directory for saving user data for steam Factorio installs. It is one of the directories Microsoft specifies that programs should use for user data. Typically user data (saves, mods, logs etc) should not be stored in Steam's steamapps directories, partly because by default Steam installs games under program files, which normal programs might not have write access to, partly because a steam install can be shared across multiple users sharing a computer, but also because if you ever need to verify the game files, Steam is likely to delete anything in that folder that it doesn't recognise.

If that's the case they should update their FAQ for posting bugfixes because there's no mention of any of that.Zavian wrote:That sounds like the normal directory for saving user data for steam Factorio installs. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3638 requests a log file, and provides this link : https://wiki.factorio.com/Log_file ; it also mentions the application directory and provides this link : https://wiki.factorio.com/Application_directory .
https://wiki.factorio.com/Log_file says the log file is provided in the application directory, and provides the same wiki link as above. https://wiki.factorio.com/Application_directory says
Pasting %appdata%\Factorio into the windows run dialog or a windows explorer address bar opens Users\Username\Appdata\Roaming\Factorio. (In a networked environment %appdata% might be on a network drive, but it should still be the right place to store a user's saves, settings etc).
If you ever use the .zip download, then that is set-up as a self-contained portable copy of the game, and log/saves etc are stored inside the directory create when you extract the zip.

The user data directory is where personal files are stored, such as world saves, mods, logs, or crash dump files. Search your computer for this directory, or type it into your file manager address bar. Locations Windows: %appdata%\Factorio
