Composite Image Sources

I would like to be able to access the original images for Modular Armor equipment or Research, which are made up of two seperate images. It is between difficult and impossible to modify them without it looking terrible.

Trying to recolor Energy Shields is extremely difficult since the border fades out, and no kind of selection option catches the whole thing correctly since it has some amount of border Alpha.
