would also be nice to be able to set the link string that determines what link network the chest is on

Why ?
same reason as normal chests link to the circuit networkI found the issue when trying to make the an inserters keep 1 stack each of a couple item in the linked chest
another example would to increse storage
if iron > 1000 then pull iron from the linked chest into disconnected storage.
if iron < 500 put iron back into the linked chest
the 2nd feature would allow a single station to connect to more then one linked chest network.
