How old are the players of Factorio
How old are the players of Factorio
I am 14 years old and the game is pretty hard for me so i 'm asking if i am enough "smart" to play this game
Re: How old are the players of Factorio
One way to find out!
You can make it as difficult for yourself as you want. It's not an "easy" game for sure, but a smart 14-year old should be able to play it. Now you get to find out how smart you are

Edit: realized that putting my age randomly on the internet may not be the best idea.

I'm over 3 times your age and don't feel smart enough to play this game sometimes.

[Koub] Moved to off topic
On OP's topic, there's a classicall French theatre play most people in France will have studied that says :
Je suis jeune, il est vrai ; mais aux âmes bien nées
La valeur n'attend pas le nombre des années.
Le Cid (Pierre Corneille)
Its litteral translation would be something like :
I am young, it's true, but to well-born souls,
value doesn't wait for the number of years
(Sorry if I didn't keep the rhymes, translating and keeping rhymes it not that easy ).

You are never to young to learn. And learning by playing is a great way to acquire new skills and knowledge. Factorio is a great game to learn about "logic" and "planning" and many other useful skills.
As a 48 year old I am thoroughly enjoying learning how to play this game and sharpen those skills needed to.

All you guys playing in your early teens: Enjoy the challenge while it lasts if you come back and play it again in your 20s then everything will be much easier

If this is not some kind of sick Forum game I am not aware of then I have the confirmation that I am old... because of how almost everyone here is half my age or younger.

That would make you 74 in my caseMeduSalem wrote:because of how almost everyone here is half my age or younger.

With a name close to Methusalem... What do you expect?MeduSalem wrote:If this is not some kind of sick Forum game I am not aware of then I have the confirmation that I am old... because of how almost everyone here is half my age or younger.
My son is having a hard time with Factorio and he is 13. I should think that most players are grown-ups.
Re: How old are the players of Factorio
Well, actually it was one of the influences into the nick when I chose it 15 years ago. The others being Medusa and Salem (the Cat from Sabrina the Teenage witch because of his sarcasm).Bauer wrote:With a name close to Methusalem... What do you expect?
Can't even remember all the nick names I used throughout the 10 years before that anymore.

Re: How old are the players of Factorio
A smart 14 year old can definitely crack this game.
Re: How old are the players of Factorio
This game has less to do with being "smart" enough - you need to have the patience to figure things out and set up that big production chain for the rocket. I'm well past 20 myself, and find this game rather enjoyable. Unlike most modern games, it doesn't focus on extremely fast paced stuff... if you want you can take almost forever even doing the simplest things - so long as you got some basic defenses up to keep an early [s]zergling[/s] biter rush from nibbling on your factory.
Re: How old are the players of Factorio
I'm 43, and I've launched rockets and gone into infinite tech, but I'm still perplexed at things some players manage to do.
A video player made out of Factorio circuits? I don't expect to ever achieve that.
A one-rocket-per-minute base? Not likely to ever happen.

Re: How old are the players of Factorio
Yeah but different people have different skills, some can be translated into Factorio, some loosely translated, but most can't.
One rocket per minute and similar games aren't so much a sign of intelligence as having a lot of spare time. Any dummy can find blueprints on the forums and whack them down in bulk. The average person should also be able to do basic maths, work out how much raw resources you need to build a rocket and work on producing that every 60s. Heck, the raw figures are on the wiki. As a proof of concept I think it's a pretty neat idea, and not to diminish the achievement of those who have done it but to me it's just legwork. I'm building a factory that should be able to handle 40 Processing Units per second (compressed blue belt) and it's not so much trying my mind as it is a relaxing wind-down while I slowly build and blueprint thousands of blue belts. The hardest part so far has been coming up with a way to unload 2x 4-wagon trains to 15 belts (plus another 3 belts for Iron Ore to be smelted into Steel), and it's not like that was overly complicated.
The guys who get my respect are those who come up with massive belt balancers, using a pair of 18-18 balancers and they're beautiful, and it's one of those skills that doesn't really translate from anything outside of the game.
But back on topic, I'm 27.
