Re: Coincidence? I think not.
Yeah, when doing the webpage, minecraft was one of the inspirations
Re: Coincidence? I think not.
Some website layouts just have it. And it's a good marketing startegy in most cases to have the people associate other good games with this particular game.
Re: Coincidence? I think not.
Well, when you develop a new product, it's pretty normal to use other similar products as references. This is really common everywhere, and I think that instead of being jealous, the initial creators should be proud of creating something that's worth to be used as inspiration, since it means you actually succeeded on designing and deploying your product. Being a website developer and working with designers all day, they showed to me that it's nowhere near an issue to have other websites to be used as inspiration, and actually sometimes is really good, since in the subconscious the person assimilates the similarities
In this case, since Factorio developers where Minecraft players themselves, and created a game after some mods were released and used that as inspiration, it's actually good that new players that comes to Factorio that plays Minecraft to assimilate similarities in the website design, implicitly trying to develop a good feeling when this player enters the website. If he likes Minecraft and doesn't dislake the MC website, it'll more likely to enjoy the Factorio game.
Now, of course, an original theme would look cooler, and I think they plan to do so with the Steam release, since it's not the best looking website, despite it's similarities.
(not the best explanation since English is not my native language, sorry)
