Add new Circuit Network Mode possible?

Would it be possible for a mod to add a new circuit network mode to say chests?
Most chests (except Request / Buffer) have only the "Read contents" circuit network mode. Would it be possible to add new modes to that through a mod?
If so, are there any mods that do this already (for purposes of looking at the how) and if not where would one start to do this?

Any help is appreciated.
