I am not sure whether to post this here or in the Texture Pack sub-forum. Mods, feel free to move this if it doesn't belong here.
I am currently making a mod that adds new tilesets. I currently have only 2 textures, wood floor and a smooth concrete. I have everything working fine but the textures are very basic meaning every tile looks the same. So Im trying to add variations similar to how the concrete textures look (cracks and different color overlays) so that the tiles are not exactly the same in an area.
Currently the textures are labeled "xxx1.png"(512x32), "xxx2.png" (256x64), and "xxx4.png" (512x128). How exactly are these tiled, meaning in which order are they placed. Is there some sort of template?
This picture should help you better undersatnd on what I am talking about. Top set are basic textures. Bottom set is what I am trying to achieve.
Tileset help
Re: Tileset help
I was messing around a bit more and what I ended up doing was just using the concrete texture as an overlay on the wood texture. No matter what I tried to do with the wood texture it came out looking pretty meh. I did the same for the smooth concrete however my method was a bit bit different. For wood I basically just put the concrete overlay on top of each image and blended it(same exact sizes). For the stone on the other hand, the overlay had to be a bit smaller than the image so I wouldn't mess up the seamless textures. I'm pretty sure this is not the correct way of doing this, but it's the only solution I could come up with.
