[0.18.37] - Inconsistent electric pole connections

Post by morritze »

Hello,

it seems that the algorithm which connects poles to each other doesn't quite produce the same results in all cases.

I built the poles in the following junction manually. As you can see on the screenshot, one of the poles stays disconnected from the large central pole, despite them all being the same distance from it :

Some observations :
1) adding and removing the disconnected pole does nothing.

2) If I remove the disconnected pole and one of the connected poles, then place the same pole in the exact same spot, where the disconnected used to be, it connects to the central pole. Then, if i manually place the last pole on the same spot where the previously connected one used to be it doesn't connect.

3) If i remove the central pole and add it back manually, the poles connect properly.

4) Finally, If i just copy it and put it on a different spot via blueprint, all of them connect properly:

Unfortunately, i'm no longer able to replicate the disconnection scenario, as i played with it for a while. Maybe it was just some weird one time glitch.

Here's the BP I used :

I moved it, you said you can not reproduce it...?!

I'm having a similar problem...
I didn't play the game since 0.17, so I'm not sure when this behavior changed, but electric poles aren't acting like before.
Trying to build the rightmost pole gives this chaotic mess of wires:

I've noticed the problem in this (very common) situation:

I may be mistaken, but didn't remember this happening before.

The most essential of mods: Gandalf
Fixes crossing wires automatically whenever they appear.
Maybe I should post the update to the portal since I'm maintaining it anyways...

Alternativly: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/power-grid-comb
Don't think it automatically fixes problems but if you have a wire mess it can fix it with an area select tool.
My mods: Capsule Ammo | HandyHands - Automatic handcrafting | ChunkyChunks - Configurable Gridlines
Some other creations: Combinassembly Language GitHub w instructions and link to run it in your browser | 0~drain Laser
