I cannot save my game more than once, this also happens during auto save, I was running a modded setup but after removing mods and starting a new game without any mods the problem persists. This happens after saving over the same save 3 times over the same name in save map menu on the 3rd I get an error. not sure if this is unique to my setup or not so I thought I would report it
"Notice
Cannot save map: Couldn't remove
C:\User\owen\Appdata\roaming\factorio\saves\test 3.bak.zip
incorrect function"
I am not sure what this .bak.zip is but it is really strange for some reason I now have 3 save files.
I have attached my logs and the save file\s also

The game needs you to update windows to be able to delete a file it created?

I don't know if anyone found out exactly why, but the common thread of this problem is an instance of Windows 10 that's several major versions out of date. There's little incentive for Factorio devs to support that.

I just don't understand why it has become a problem now. I think will mean I will have to go back to v16 and not update to v17. My PC purposely has windows "updates" turned off, to prevent Micro$oft running all their spyware on this machine. And every update breaks so many things for no real improvements.... ho hum.

Well I can confirm, I bit the bullet, updated M$ spyware, then re-disabled all the spyware from the update, and you were right. Factorio works now without complaining about the inability to write and delete files!

It seems that the bug is fixed in Visual Studio 2019, according to https://devblogs.microsoft.com/cppblog/ ... n-vs-2019/.
Worked around the POSIX deletion mode delete function existing on Windows 10 LTSB 1609 but not actually being capable of deleting files.
