[0.16.16] mining prod research location in research tree

I believe that the research is sorted based on research cost.
Mining productivity however is not sorted correctly. Artillery and laser research cost way more.

I'm pretty sure it's sorted by which science packs are required - (M)ilitary Science comes before (P)roduction Science so artillery gets sorted before mining productivity.

Hmm interesting... resulting sequence seems weird/not intuitive to me though

sorting based on raw required materials seems more logical to me.

Yes, main priority is the most expensive pack used. That way technologies with same science pack structure stay grouped together.

But isn't it counter intuitive that the mining productivity 23 only costs 2200 bottles (and without military) but is further up the tree than artillery range 4 which requires a 10 fold amount.

With earlier science one gets the notion that more expensive research is placed further back.

With normal science the current system felt OK, but when you reach infinite science it seems off.

Can you propose a better solution? Advantage of the current one is that the technologies are organized and grouped by the technology tier and resource requirements. That should not be lost.

Make all the infinite military researches take all seven science packs? That sorts them all at the end. I think it's odd that they don't depend on production science atm.

I wouldn't change current sorting for normal science.

For infinite science (or all science if it works out) how would it look if you'd just sort based on total raw materials (ores/oil) I guess that your grouping would still be somewhat true, and really expensive research will get at the end of the tree (where it should be). If you want to sort for military you can group by coal or something like that?

I had a look at it.

I took the raw cost per science bottle:
raw cost of science bottles
And just added up all materials for each research
research requirements
the total is just the sum of all raw materials times a weighting factor. This way you can force some sorting.
weighting
I did not do it for all research as this is a lot of work to manually but for a few:
resulting order
mainly infinite science order seems better to me:
infinite order
yell if you want the spreadsheet and i'll make a download link.
