Hi,
I'm getting a constant lagspike if I play a browser video on another monitor at the same time as playing the game, if I stop the video the lagspike just happens now and again, like every 30 seconds.
As you can see from the pic below its not really taxing the CPU at all, I also bumped up auto-save to every 15 minutes just to see if that was a issue.
The problem seems to be with my 690GTX, whenever I play a video on another monitor its fans really spools up but I don't understand why since the other gfx card takes care of the other monitors.
This is the only game that has this problem, anyone else experience this? Should I try out the 32bit executable and see if that works better?
Perhaps I need to disable the 690 SLI for this game? Might that be it?
Specs are
Game is installed on a SSD drive.
4 monitors.
1 x nVidia 690GTX (Drives the main monitor and its where the game is running)
1 x nVidia 610TI (Drives the other three monitors)
32GB RAM
i7-3930K 3.2Ghz 6 core CPU
Could need some help

Have you tried the low resolution mode?

Tried to reduce screen-resolution?

That's like telling a Ferrari driver that he should drive no more than 50km/hr to get rid of the rattle...
Re: [0.9.8 - Windows - 64bit] Huge performance issue
If I turn the map on and off again the game runs fine for a few seconds before it slows up again.
I have the same problem running in windowed and fullscreen.

do you use any mods?
Dytech may use lots of memory.
BTW how much does the PC cost?

It is possible, that Factorio uses the wrong card. There would be also slowdowns, if some other application used enough video memory to deallocate some of the vram of Factorio which would have to be reloaded from ram and it slows down the game quite a lot.
The 690GTX has 4g (at least this is what google told me) so it is enough by far, so maybe the problem is really with using the wrong card. I have honestly no idea how this is decided in the system. I have single GFX card (760GTX) and I can run 2 factorios at the same time while watching a movie without a problem.
Could you run some gpu-related program, like http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ and see/show what does it show? Mainly what card is utilized by Factorio?
Are you also not using any mod?
And finally you could try to low-res mode, not that I want you to play it that way, but just to find out if it's really the problem or it is something else.
Regards

Hm. If it is like so, I have a similar problem on my Mac, it uses always the internal slow GFX, instead of the faster. I need to use a program, which force switching.

I could imagine that this is my problem here too: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=3157
Re: [0.9.8 - Windows - 64bit] Huge performance issue
Not using any mods, just the vanilla game.
I tried using gpu-z and it uses my 690 card for sure. GPU-z reports its using around 8% of what the card can perform when running the game in high def, with the low quality option its running around 5%.
Low quality setting High quality
So its neither using all my CPU or GPU power, so the only thing I can think of is that there is some logic in the game that does something weird with my hardware configuration?

Re: [0.9.8 - Windows - 64bit] Huge performance issue
I found the problem here, my fault.
I had an old Apple USB external graphics card adapter plugged into the back of the machine.
I unplugged it and after that everything works great in the game for some reason.
Anyway, resolved!
