I've a friend who wanted to try Factorio, but got very frustrated by biters swarming them too often. I suggested a workaround, setting peaceful mode.

They did that (twice, to get past the achievement warning), and happily continued the tutorial.

Until the biters attacked again.

I don't know if the tutorial has the attacks hardcoded or what, but it seems like a bug to include them in a tutorial that doesn't really talk about defenses.

What version does he play?
What is the exact command he used?

The tutorial specifically spawns and scripts the attacks. It even has dialog about them when you play though it. That's by design.

If he doesn't want to fight biters he could skip right to sandbox mode/free play and turn them off there.

Does the tutorial talk about biters in each level? I haven't replayed them in the recent versions -- all I know is that it took long enough that the pistol wasn't enough to fend them off anymore, and there wasn't a mention that one should perhaps build turrets or a machine gun or even more ammo.

btw, why is the 'out of ammo' sound the same as the 'mining'? That was pretty confusing too :)
