While riding an automatic train, I passed by two "trainspitters" (not to be confused with trainspotters) sitting right next to the track who immediately decided to spit on me. Their acid projectiles followed the train for a really long distance (like two or three screens) until they finally catched up with the train in a curve and damaged the locomotive.
Seems like the spitter distance is only calculated before spitting, but the projectiles actually have infinite flight time once under way, even if the target moves out of the original range.

Hello, this is not a bug, this is how their shooting mechanics work, you can't dodge or run away from it.
