I use cargo wagons as intermediate buffer. The nuber of items is controlled with the filterfunction of the wagons.
The production internal transport is realised by the production itself. If you need some products, you can place inserters on the upper side of the wagons to get them.

And if you need a higher throughput you may use this.

And a third one to produce local one sort of modules.

In my next new szenario this will be one central design concept.

Very clever on using wagons as buffers, I would suggest putting speed modules in some in the back and some energy in the front so you can get slightly closer to the optimal ratio, beacons might help too.

You are reight. There is potential for optimizateion.
But here I intended to shor just this trick.
