This mod has been around for a while, but now that the release for Factorio 1.0 is out, I'd like to showcase it here.

Water turrets are simple turrets that will be unlocked together with normal gun turrets early on in the game. They won't deal much damage to your enemies, but they have a large range (50 tiles per default) and are good at slowing down hordes of approaching enemies. If loaded with water, they will also extinguish fires in the area, and if loaded with steam, they will deal more damage. (Hint: Use hotter steam for higher damage!)

The mod also provides highly specialized fire extinguisher turrets. They are expensive to make, but they'll put out fire much faster than normal water turrets. With a radius of 360°, you don't need to setup one turret to cover each direction.

If the setting is enabled, both water and fire extinguisher turrets will also clean up the acid splashes left behind by worms and spitters.

Hardened pipes add value to this mod. Fire extinguisher turrets will require some more research, and the recipe will become more expensive and more complicated to craft -- but you'll be rewarded with some resistances and immunities for the turrets! Also, you may like the challenge of setting up a production line for making fire extinguisher turrets with hardened pipes. :twisted:

Water turrets should be compatible with mods that provide new enemies, like Natural Evolution Enemies or Rampant. Due to some requests, there are many settings for customizing turret properties like range, preferred targets, or even the color!

I've just released a new version that fixes several bugs, adds compatibility with other mods, and should improve performance again.
1.0.2
Caveats:
  • There is a kind of bug that I'd consider not a bug of this mod, but a limitation of Factorio. In the late game, when you've got spidertron, and power armor with Personal Laser Defense, it may happen that spidey and PLD attack fires and acid splashes although they can't damage them. Honestly, I don't know what to do about that. The whole thing would be quite easy to fix -- if only I'd have the means to do this! I've made a modding interface request a while ago to get the thing that works with most other things (i.e., attack and ignore target masks) also for artillery turrets, PLD, and spidertron. But there's nothing I can do at the moment.
  • It may happen that turrets are locked on a target they could shoot at but don't. This is a Factorio bug that has already been fixed for 1.1, according to this.
  • The recipes for Fire extinguishing fluid still need some balancing, badly. However, this mod has not been updated in a month although several fixes for serious bugs have been ready for weeks. In my opinion, the unbalanced recipes are a mere nuisance in comparison, so I've decided to get this out now. If you have ideas how to improve the recipes, please feel free to leave a comment here or on the mod portal! :-)
