Logistics trash slots with basic bots, but not normal logistics slots?

Is it expected that logistics trash slots research is available along with the simple easy cargo bots, but to get normal character logistics slots I have to make it up the tech tree to normal base game logistics bots?

As I understand it: yes, because cargo bots aren't intended to make deliveries to the player.
